MLA723 coursework report : 4000 words
STEP ONE: DEVELOP A DATA SET
For four weeks, keep a journal of everything you eat and drink. Do not self-edit or change your usual eating patterns for this experience.
It might be useful to keep this journal electronically, you can use Padlet for example, as you will have to sort and sift this data later.
STEP TWO: DEVELOP AND DEFINE A SCORING SYSTEM
You are going to rate each of your foodstuffs in terms of four categories:
- Environmental Impact: This involves assessing the product’s impact on the environment, such as its carbon footprint, water usage, and potential for habitat destruction etc.
- Social Responsibility: This pertains to the product’s impact on communities, labour practices, and fair-trade considerations.
- Economic Viability: This involves evaluating the product’s economic sustainability, including its affordability, resource efficiency, and contribution to local and global economies.
- Personal Impact: This involves evaluating the product for its impact on your health and well-being, including a consideration of its nutritional value, additives, level of processing etc.
Develop a scoring mechanism and definitions against each score so that you can use it systematically and as objectively as possible.
STEP THREE: SCORE YOUR FOOD
Develop a spreadsheet with six columns. These are the foodstuffs, your scores for the four categories above, and a notes column.
Fill in your table, so that you have scored each foodstuff against your previously developed criteria.
STEP FOUR: THINK AND EVALUATE
You will not be able to just present that spreadsheet (although please append it as an Appendix to your final report). So, you are going to have to think carefully about how you summarise and communicate the main findings in your data.
STEP FIVE: PREPARE YOUR REPORT
Construct a 4000-word report that evaluates your own diet’s contribution to the SDGs. Finally, take two of the poorest performing areas in your sustainability audit and show how this can be improved by drawing on examples of current work in this area that aligns with one or more of the six Transformations I have talked about in lectures.
