Module Title: Managing Quality and Performance

Assessment Task:

Achieving Organisational excellence through Sustaining Quality and Performance.

In today’s competitive business environment, organisations are striving to be competitive through unparallel quality assured products and services. The wide range of tools and techniques are available from which organisations can choose to improve performance, manage quality and develop a culture of continuous improvement. The key to organisational excellence is to devise excellent and efficient processes to minimise both operational and process waste. The organisations can achieve business excellence through Process improvement and a culture of continuous improvement.

You are assigned the role of Quality Assurance Lead to identify the areas of improvement and evaluate quality improvement tools. And implement the most appropriate quality tool/technique that should not only address the problems but also improve the organisation’s productivity in terms of sustaining performance and quality assurance.

You must provide the rationale for the selected technique, and critically analyse its viability to quality improvement in the organisational context.

Task 1

Critically analyse the role of Quality Assurance in the context of organisation’s capability to continuously produce quality assured products and services, and how the culture of quality contributes towards the performance of the organisation, both internally and externally.

Task 2

Critically analyse the relationship between Organisation’s strategic objectives and the rationale for selecting quality systems.

Task 3

Critically analyse the relationship between Lean and continuous improvement with PDCA (Deming’s Quality Wheel) in the context of organisational performance.

Specific Criteria/Guidance:

A good introduction (Approximately 100 to 125 words)

State clearly the aims and objectives of this report, the introduction of the topic and background of the selected organisation, followed by:

Task One and Two – Approximately 1,100 words, worth 45%

  • What is Quality Assurance, and its role in the organisation’s ability to consistently produce fit to purpose products and services?
  • You need to critically evaluate the changing roles and responsibilities in business operations relative to managing quality and performance. “ How the roles have changed over the time and how those changes they are more focused on managing quality and performance.”
  • The businesses can achieve Quality assurance through Process improvement, Change management, Resource management and quality audits. You can use any of those in your discussion.
  • Quality culture also depends on developing fit to purpose training and development programmes, employees’ involvement in decision making, and empowerment.
  • You can choose ONE quality improvement method from, Process improvement (DAMIC), Fishbone analysis and kaizen. – “ make sure the chosen tool/method is aligned with organisation’s corporate and strategic objectives.”
  • You should use theory and its application to back up your argument. You should make reference to the work of quality Gurus, also known as Quality theorists, such as; Philip B. Crosby, W. Edwards Deming, Kaoru Ishikawa and Joseph M. Juran.

Task Three – Approximately 800 words, worth 35%

  • Critically analyse the relationship between lean and Continuous improvement.
  • Critically analyse the steps required for continuous improvement utilising Deming’s PDCA Cycle.
  • Critically discuss the relationship between PDCA and continuous improvement.
